AIIHPCE-Learning Programme on Formal Family Meetings: A Structured Approach to Communication within Palliative Care

This interactive online E-learning programme on Formal Family Meetings has been designed by educators and multi-disciplinary clinical staff from Marymount University Hospital & Hospice Cork and Milford Care Centre Limerick, supported by the All Ireland Institute of Hospice & Palliative Care.

Formal Family Meetings

Formal Family Meetings are a well-established model of communication, that provide an important opportunity in all care settings dealing with palliative care and end-of-life issues.

Target Audience

This E-learning programme is suitable for health and social care professionals involved in the delivery of palliative and end-of-life care in any setting, including specialist palliative care services, acute hospitals, long stay residential centres and nursing homes.

Aim

To develop knowledge on communication and on the structure and process of formal family meetings in palliative care.

Programme Content

There are six sections to the E-learning programme

Section 1:  Principles of Communication in Palliative Care

Section 2: Overview of Palliative Care & Families

Section 3: Considering Formal Family Meetings

Section 4: Pre-Meeting Planning

Section 5: The Structure of the Formal Family Meeting

Section 6 :Post Formal Family Meeting Review & Follow –Up

Interactive Programme

This E-learning programme should take approximately 4 hours to complete. The interactivity of the programme includes a combination of powerpoint presentation with voiceovers, filmed practice scenarios, question and answer quizzes and reference lists.

Accreditation

The programme has achieved four Continuing Education Units from An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann and two CEU’s from the Royal College of Physicians Ireland.

Programme Fee

The fee for the on-line programme is €45. Payment can be made using a PayPal option. You do not need to have a PayPal account to use the facility. Alternatively, payment can be made via cheque or invoice.
