St. Luke’s Specialist Palliative Care Day Unit
Specialist Palliative Care Service in a Daycare Setting
St. Luke’s Specialist Palliative Care Day Unit is a friendly and relaxed environment located on the ground floor of the hospice. It offers a specialist palliative care service in a daycare setting. The overarching aim is to improve quality of life for people contending with serious illness and their families, using a range of therapeutic and rehabilitative approaches.
Members of the specialist palliative care multidisciplinary team meet with each person to assess their needs and develop an individualised programme of support .
Services Included
- Monitoring of your condition by medical and nursing staff
- Access to the services of Physiotherapy / Bereavement & Family Support Services and pastoral care.
- Certain minor treatments (that do not require an overnight stay) can be facilitated
- Mid-day meal and refreshments are provided
- Complementary therapies, e.g. aromatherapy, hand & foot massage
- Hairdressing / beauty therapy
- Companionship – in a friendly relaxing atmosphere
- Creative pastimes such as arts and crafts
- Leisure trips to places of local interest
The Community palliative care team will continue to support the patient once they have completed their daycare programme.
Transport
Families are encouraged to provide transport to and from the hospice but volunteer drivers and a hospital bus are available to those with transport difficulties.
Referral Procedure
Referral to St. Luke’s Specialist Palliative Care Day Unit is from the Community Palliative Service and/or from Inpatient Palliative Care Services.
