‘Living for Today, Planning for Tomorrow’
Executive Summary
Since 2013, the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care hosts the Palliative Care Week campaign across the island of Ireland in response to the growing need for increased awareness and better knowledge and understanding of palliative care across all corners of society and within communities. We also respond to the need for further education for those working in health services, particularly health and social care professionals working in settings where a general palliative care approach will benefit those they care for.
There are many misconceptions about palliative care which means people may not avail of palliative care services and are therefore potentially missing out on improved quality of life. Thus, we persist in our campaign to try and reach key audiences and breakdown and dispel the misconceptions.
Every year, we collaborate with our member organisations and wider stakeholders to build on past campaigns and design increasingly impactful campaigns. This year, in order to inform the development of our campaign, we reviewed the learnings from research about the public’s perceptions of palliative care and effective campaigns focussed on palliative care, and lessons from other countries that hold similar campaigns.
